This is classic brutal hardcore with added oomph! Mortal Terror pick up from where the first generation of Napalm Death and Extreme Noise Terror left off, twisting it up with extra madness and packing in 10 tracks in a little over 21 minutes. Generic take a more schizo approach, blasting along headfirst one moment, grinding it right down the next, and then throwing in a little bit of abstract noodling just for the hell of it. Everything is as tight as fuck and, although production values aren't as polished as similar bands from the same time, the anger and energy are loud and clear.

I saw Sned of ex-Generic fame a couple of months ago, when he was drumming for his new band (whose name I can't for the arse of me remember) alongside an old mucker of mine called Romsey Matt on bass. If anything, the bloke's just got more brutal with age, and it was wicked to see and hear him pound the skins to within an inch of their life. The young whippersnappers could learn a trick or ten from this old dog.

Hello mate, just to let u know I've linked you over at mine. This is an awesome LP! Generic are one of my favourites, a totally class act. I had this one lined up to do myself, but I'll grab this as I'm sure yr rips will be alot better than mine (especially as I've just read all yr techno-babble and I'm a total technophobe!). Thanx.

Generic! Yea! Saw them once in Arnhem Holland 1987, with Electro Hippies, awesome show!

Another couple of satisfied customers, hurrah! Thanks for leaving a comment, makes me feel all appreciated.
INFARC, I'm afraid I don't have that record, but I'll keep my eyes open on my travels.

Sned's new band? War all The Time! And yeah, they slay all weaker newcomers! Though I'm probably biased due to living with Romsey Matt these last couple years (who now goes by the much snappier moniker Dingo)… Also wanted to give ya the big thumbs up on the blog - mucho good stuff, glad to finally get the Tofu Love Frogs stuff on pc at last, the tapes are decaying!

Saw Dingo/Romsey Matt at the SEEIN' RED weekend the other week - he was down with a whole bunch of northern monkeys including Sned!
The late lamented Jonathan Lobster came up with the "Dingo" moniker when they played together in MINUTE MANIFESTO.

Thanks for the post! I used to really dig the UK thrash bands back in 86-87… Heresy, Napalm Death, Ripcord, and, of course, Generic! I'm sure listening to this will bring back a lot of good memories!
