This band started out as staunch pacifists (or 'passive fists' as they put it), although they later developed a more combative political approach - even playing at the Class War international conference in 1991 and getting stuck in when a few braindead boneheads tried to crash the party (their first and last mistake). They were a welcome departure from the harsher punk world, producing poprock-tinged melodies and tuneful harmonising amongst very well-played instruments (although, with their Jockish accents, I still can't help thinking 'Proclaimers' when I hear 'em! ). They were also lyrically astute and had a keen grasp of politics and history. Which is probably why Ramsay (their vocalist) went off and started a little distro called AK Press.
I used to have their demo tapes but gave 'em away when my tape player broke and it wasn't worth the money replacing it. However, if anyone has decent quality rips of 'Fresh Hate', 'Valium For The Masses' or 'Walls Have Ears' (this one in particular), I'd be happy to grab 'em from you.

Ha ha, that Proclaimers association went through my head too every time I played PA's music back then; maybe because because Ramsey wore/wears glasses… BTW, far pre-Proclaimers, those two brothers had a punk band called Black Flag (!) that's supposed to have been pretty great, but they never recorded.

i had a zine and distro back then and got the tapes on license from PA, when they toured germany, but as far as i remember, nobody ordered them.
do you have a tape-deck again? have to check, if they still run fine. ramsey always reminded me of "Arnie Cunningham" in "Christine".
