Free Noise #23

Artist: A-Heads
Title: Forgotten Hero
Source: Vinyl 7" EP
Bitrate: V0 VBR
Running time (h:m:s): 00:10:21
Size (mb): 19.3
Label: Bluurg Records
Year: 1983

The A-Heads were part of the Wessex scene that appeared in the early 80's, along with the likes of The Subhumans. They were fronted by female vocalist Mel and played in a simple but tuneful mid-paced punk style. Lyrics were fairly basic and typical for the time - we were all still young and hadn't yet learnt big words and fancy song structures! Some of us still haven't…

This is their second (and final) full vinyl release to date. As ever, I've done this arse backwards - the first EP will follow as and when. The band have recently reformed so there's a possibility of some new plastic-based product from them. Or you may be able to catch them live if they happen to be passing.

It's hard to believe I was dancing to this lot 25 years ago. Here's hoping I get the chance to do it again.

    I love this band/single!
Only saw them the once - in Bournemouth in 1984.
Old Totton punks Rut & Gary went to see them in Gillingham (Dorset one!) recently & said they were great.

    Hi Rich ;)

Some of the stuff I've uploaded here hasn't seen the light of day for quite some time, and I'd forgotten how good it was. It's like having a whole new record collection again! Glad you're enjoying it too.

Did the A-Heads play a song for Totton? :D

For anyone who doesn't know him, Rich is a top bloke and one of the unsung heroes of the UK punk scene, responsible for giving some of the finest noisemongers around (as well as a few iffy ones) the chance to live out their rock star fantasies entertain and educate the masses and frighten small children. You'll find him lurking on the South Coast DIY Punk forums among others, which is also a handy place to find out what's going on in that part of the world (lots, as it happens). Go and say hello.
